Martin Hartl had a very special experience on 24 May 2025. Let’s hear what he has to say:
„When the branches began to move 60 metres ahead of me, I initially thought it was a chamois or a roe deer. Then I was speechless, because a lynx was sitting on a small rocky outcrop, peering down at the area below. Every now and then it craned its neck, as if it had spotted something. Below this rocky outcrop, in any case, there is a patch of exposed roots, beneath which lies a badger’s sett. Perhaps the lynx had noticed something. I was able to watch the lynx for 20 minutes. It was an extraordinary hunting experience, the best I’ve ever had, and one I’ll never forget. A magnificent animal that enriches our countryside. I’m still completely overwhelmed!“
The lynx spotted by hunter Martin Hartl north of the Kalkalpen National Park is Janus, the youngest lynx in the Kalkalpen
